Five things: Autumn Wishlist

1. Embroidered Leather Jacket, £295, Topshop // 2. Embroidered Pinafore Dress, £25, Boohoo//  3. Mesh Jumpsuit, £35, Missguided // Velvet Sweater, £28, Topshop // Crushed Velvet Lace-up Boots, £39, Public Desire //

It's official, summer 2016 is no more...who else is not mentally prepared for it to be over? I know I'm not!

Anyway, Autumn does have it's benefits; Halloween, cosy knits and most importantly, you can slack on shaving your legs and get away with it.

My autumn/winter wardrobe doesn't vary much compared to my summer one, I still wear a lot of black with earthy tones but obviously with more layers.

I'm loving all of the floral embroidery that's about this season. I'm totally in love with this embroidered biker jacket from Topshop (I mean, why wouldn't I? It's way out of my budget *nervous laughter*). It's still pretty while giving that badass edge that I love.

I've always avoided Jumpsuits because I thought that I was too short but having tried some on in various stores, I've decided that I need one in my wardrobe. I particularly love this one from Missguided, perfect for a night out!

If you know anything about me, you know that I am OBSESSED with black ankle boots. I reckon about half of my shoe collection is black boots. I lurrve these crushed velvet ones from Public Desire, they have such a gothic/halloween vibe, which, as a goth at heart, is definitely my cup of tea.

Last but not least, no autumn wardrobe isn't complete without some cute sweaters. I particularly love this one from Topshop. I adore the colour and it switches things up with the roll neck...I bet it's so effin cosy as well!

So tell me guy, what do you want in your autumn/winter wardrobe?

How to cope with the internet when things go to shit

This post should probably be classed as a 'note to self' rather than advice to others, because believe me, I am in no position to advise others.

One thing I promised myself when I started my blog is that I would keep things real with my readers. I always find that lifestyle & fashion blogs have a theme of 'look how great my life is' or 'here's how you can have an awesome life like I have'.

No disrespect to these bloggers, I love what they do and I know that they work super hard but I kind of wish that more of them would let go of this faux-aspirational image that they convey to their followers.

But that's what social media is all about isn't it? It's claiming that you have the world's best boyfriend when you're constantly arguing behind closed doors. It's bragging about your new job so your old classmates can see how great you're doing.

It's the millennial version of keeping up with the Joneses and we're all guilty of it.

If you know me, you know that I have been made redundant recently and seeing my peers posting about traveling the world or their amazing new jobs has made it harder for me to cope with.

I know I shouldn't let it get to me but I can't help myself -  I'm a sucker for punishment!

I was bullied in school and ever since, I've had this idea that I somehow had to prove myself to others. Social Media has only made this annoying trait even worse because it has made it so much easier for me to compare myself to others when I should be focusing my energy on myself.

I know what you're thinking, 'why don't you just ignore social media, Anna?' and as tempting as it is, I don't think that it's the answer.

The internet is still a great place to distract yourself from the bullshit of life and more importantly, it's a great place for people to open up and I think that is so important.

It's not a case of ditching the internet, it's a case of getting yourself to a point where you don't take it all too seriously and accepting that people have their own journey in life.

I know you've heard it all before; we only see half the story online, people have an online persona...blah blah blah but it's so fucking true!

Everyone has their fair share of shit that they have to deal with and guess what? They're not always going to hang out their dirty laundry online.

My life isn't perfect, your life isn't perfect...nobody's life is perfect, so stop comparing yourself to others!

Outfit Post: Floral Blouse

Blouse: Topshop // Velvet Flares: H&M

Welcome to my first outfit post guys, I would first like to apologise for the picture quality, my camera is out of action and there was nobody about to take photos on my phone so Macbook camera it was!

When I picked this blouse up from the 'last chance to buy' rack in Topshop, my immediate thought was 'this will either look really terrible or really amazing'.
Thankfully, the latter was correct and I fell in love with it instantly. I may have looked like I'm wearing a naff pair curtains but I looked like a fierce naff pair of curtains.

I usually wear it for work with my suede button up black A-line skirt from Nobody's Child but on this occasion, I teamed it with a pair of velvet flares from H&M.
I also love dressing down this lil number with mom jeans or black dungarees.

Any other garish blouse lovers out there?

PEACE

Can we just talk about Penny Lane, the best dressed lady in cinematic history?

I finally got round to watching Almost Famous last summer and it was everything that I hoped it would be...but I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about the female lead, Penny Lane and how she basically became my biggest style crush ever!

Forget Cher Horowitz and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, this girl is, hands down, the best dressed movie character ever.

I have always had a thing for 70's fashion but I found that a lot of it was too whimsical and girly when done on the catwalk or on the high street - I needed a bit more edge to it and I feel that they nailed that perfectly in Almost Famous.

I love how she always looks so effortlessly cool but has that touch of glam with the faux fur and the tinted sunglasses. Oh and that coat, that shearling coat...WHERE DO I FIND ONE??

To my delight, the high street have definitely embraced Penny's look in their collections in the past 12 months or so, especially people like Topshop, Boohoo and Nasty Gal. They've finally realised that 70's boho doesn't just have to be floaty tops and flower crowns.

Below I have picked out a few high street finds that perfectly encompasses the Penny Lane look!

Penny Lane: get the look

1. Lace Trim Cropped Cami, £21, Topshop // 2. Printed Flares, £28, Topshop // 3. Emily Faux Fur Gilet, £30, Boohoo.com // 4. Round Sunglasses, £16, Topshop // 5. Alexa Red Patent Sock Boots, £32.99, Public Desire @ ASOS // 6. Striped Funnel Top, £24, Topshop // 7. Denim Patchwork Skirt, £28, Zara

A friendly introduction from your new resident fashion blogger!

So here I am again, making another hapless attempt at becoming a blogger. I think this is probably the third time now? The third time where I've sat down and thought 'right, I'm going to run a fashion blog and it's going awesome and I will be one of those fabulous gals you see sitting next to a cast member of Made in Chelsea at Fashion Week' but then my old friend procrastination rears its ugly head and my ambitions of being the next Sartorialist completely goes to shit.

This time, however, I will stick to it and make it happen because you know what they say,'third time's a charm' and my time of being a kick-ass blogger has come! (don't look at me like that)

Anyways, I'm going to start off by introducing my self: my name is Anna, I am 24 years old and as you've probably guessed, that is me in the above picture. Since I am completely crap at these 'about me' things, I'm just going to list a few facts about myself:

  • I hail from the very beautiful North Wales but I am currently residing in Chester with a couple of bffs
  • I work as a writer and social media manager at a woman's weekly mag and its pretty swell
  • In my spare time, I enjoy hitting the gym, yoga, drinking copious amounts of gin and watching re-runs of Come Dine With Me
  • I love all dogs.....no really, I love all of the dogs in the entire world. No exceptions.
  • I am half German on my mother's side
  • I graduated from uni last year with a degree in Fashion Marketing and yes, I do really miss being a student
